Seize the Cupcake

Clearly, I've had cupcakes on the brain this week :) Today's card uses the adorable new Verve set, Carpe Cupcake. The layout is Jen's Sketch For You To Try...

and the color combo is from the Colour Create Challenge #52 (you *know* I didn't choose those on my own! I am so NOT a purple person!), based on this beautiful inspiration photo:

I used to participate in tons of challenges. Not so much lately, but three new-to-me challenges this week have reminded me how much I enjoy them. The papers are all from Basic Grey's Kioshi collection, which seemed a great fit for the color challenge. The cupcakes are paper pieced and dotted with glitter. Behind the center sentiment circle, I added a doily, which is an optional extra with the Colour Create challenge.

Check out what the SFYTT sisters did with this week's super cool sketch:

Have a great weekend! I'm dividing my Saturday between Football Fest, the big fundraiser kickoff to the fall football season and a little birthday fete for my mom's 70th. Then tomorrow, I'm going to pretend I know what I'm talking about and write up a tutorial - more on that another day ;)

Garden Visit

Happy Friday! If you're a Penny Black fan and haven't checked out the Penny Black Saturday Challenge blog before, be sure to stop by. I've been checking in on their challenges and amazing design team samples for a while now, but this is my first time playing. This week it's a sketch challenge:

The image I used is called Garden Visit, and the sentiment is from Flourishes' Friendly Reminders. Coloring is with Tombow markers and a water brush. The papers are from Kaiser Craft's 6x6 Devonshire collection. The scalloped and beaded border strips along the bottom of the card are die-cuts that are included in the paper pack. Love that! I'm anxiously awaiting a shipment of new Spellbinders dies - hopefully today! In the meantime, I thought I'd try something different with the main image, so I backed it with a paper doily.

I've been messing around in Facebook a little this week and finally claimed ownership of this blog. I must confess to being not all that savvy with FB, and I don't totally understand the whole Networked Blogs thing, but for now, I've added the little widget to the right sidebar, so if that's helpful to you, have at it!

Thanks for stopping by!

Short and sweet for me today. My oldest and five of his buddies celebrated his tenth birthday yesterday with laser tag and a {no}sleepover. We'll be recovering all day!

Birthday Flossie

The sweet folks over at Mo's Digital Pencil Facebook page have used one of my layouts for their current sketch challenge, so I just had to play along (thanks, Shell & Mo)! This is my first time using one of Mo's images, but definitely not my last. I spent *hours* browsing through her amazing image collection and already can't wait to go shopping again. Some of my favorites are from her Wizard of Oz series -- she captured that silly scarecrow perfectly! He snuck into my cart, you can bet, but for today, I've colored up Birthday Mouse Flossie for my mother, who turns 70 tomorrow - go MOM! I'm not all that crazy about some of my color choices, but that's the nice thing about making card for our mothers - they have to like them. It's a "mom rule," right?

Have an awesome day, friends!

How Sweet of You

I can't get enough of Verve's latest release! Today's card features a trio of paper-pieced cupcakes from Carpe Cupcake and a sentiment from Happy Hello. The layout is a fun one that sort of fell into place from scraps on my table. I did have a big "uh-oh" moment when I was adding the black zigzag stitching ... didn't plan on hitting that blue and yellow ribbon roadblock. Stitch over it? Skip that part and continue below? I decided not to decide {grin}.

Be sure to check out the Anni-Verve-sary specials going on right now. First, through August 31 (while supplies last), enjoy a FREE Framed Wishes with a minimum $35 purchase. And second, save a bundle on the bundle: check out the special pricing on the full Anni-Verve-sary Collection (through September 6).

Thanks for stopping by!

Cupcake Anya SFYTT

I'm very late with my SFYTT sample today -- so sorry! I had a blast this past week with both Verve's Anni-VERVE-sary release and Stamper's Dream's JustRite Week, but I confess my creative well needed some downtime to replenish itself before I tackled today's SFYTT.

I'm tickled to death that today's sketch is being sponsored by The Greeting Farm. I've followed this company since it began, and am so happy for its success! One lucky sketch participant this week will win an in-stock 4"x6" TGF stamp set of her/his choice!! Wish I were eligible, teehehe!

This is my first time using one of the adorable Anya images. I chose to work with the new Cupcake Anya digi. I colored with Prismacolor pencils, except for the skin tones, which I colored with Copics, a tip I picked up from my coloring idol Paula Williamson. Speaking of coloring idols, Paula and my other coloring idol, Linda Heavens, are teaming up for a weekend of classes at Stamping Bella in late September, and I soooooo want to ask for that for my birthday! Would a single one of my IRL friends understand hopping on a plane from Virginia to Toronto so I can learn to color? My husband doesn't understand either, but he smiles and nods really well!

Here's the sketch (I turned it on its side):

For You, Great Friend

Did you all like that clean-and-simple detour yesterday? I thought I'd give you a totally different look at the same stamp set as yesterday, Verve's new Great Friend. For this card, I used the same three flowers as yesterday, but this time I stamped them onto designer paper, cut them out, and layered them for dimension. I also distressed the flower layers with ink and crumpling. A totally different look -- love the versatility!

Join the Verve Divas tonight for our release party, beginning at 8 pm EST HERE in the Verve Forum. Hope to chat with some of you then! In the meantime, have a great Friday!

Verve New Release Spotlight: Great Friend

Today is the final day of Verve's New Release Spotlights, which means two things: a) lots more eye candy today, and b) the official release is right around the corner! As in tomorrow (Friday)! Join us HERE in the Verve Forum at 8 pm EST tomorrow for good fun and chitchat. Can't wait!

Today's featured set is called Great Friend. You will *love* the generous size of the largest flowers in this set as well as the smaller sizes for layering! I can't wait to share all of the cards I made with this set, but for today, just one. The Divas are going to share all sorts of different ways to work with these flowers - coloring, layering, distressing, paper piecing, and so on. I stepped way out of character for today's sample and went with a modern, clean, graphic approach:

I know, can you believe? Clean and simple, all the way! I had so much fun stepping out of my layering-embellishing-coloring box, and I love that this can be easily re-created in less than ten minutes!

Now be sure to see all kinds of gorgeousness at my fellow Divas' blogs. Remember to leave comments on each of the blogs for your chance to win Great Friend!

Verve New Release Spotlight: Kind Words & Happy Hello

Have you been enjoying the past few days of Verve peeks? If you've missed the fun, be sure to catch up at the Verve blog. Each day from this past Saturday through Thursday, the Divas are showing off new sets that will be released this Friday.

Today, it's all about Kind Words and Happy Hello. Kind Words is one of those sets that combines the best of what Verve is all about -- a beautiful floral image, a motivational quote, and a mix of additional all-purpose sentiments, all done in Julee's signature modern elegance. For this first card, I just had to go with the Mother Teresa quote - how beautiful!

The next set, Happy Hello, is just pure fun! The sentiments are darling, and there are some really cool graphical elements that just beg to be played with.

Here I've used a trio of open squares to make a checklist (I spread them out a little bit by stamping just one square three different times. "A Cheerful," "A Happy," and "A Warm" are separate stamps. The frame around the "hello" sentiment and the "hello" sentiment are also part of the set. The layout is one of the five Anni-VERVE-sary sketch challenge sketches:

There's still plenty of time to complete these challenges for lots of chances to win! Details are HERE.

JustRite Week at Stamper's Dream - Day Two!

I'm back today with a second installment for JustRite Week at Stamper's Dream. Also posting today are Denise, Cindy, Tosh, Cammie.

Today I'm featuring an image from Christmas Ornaments and a sentiment from Christmas Nested Centers & Verse. Woweeeee are these ornaments gorgeous! And the Christmas Nested Centers & Verse set is quite possibly the most elegant collection of holiday sentiments ever! The smaller ones are perfect for using along with a stamped image as a focal point, and the larger ones are perfect for inside sentiments or for using as a focal point on the front.

I stamped one of the four ornaments onto Neenah Classic Crest Solar White card stock and colored with a combination of Copics and Tombow markers. I didn't do any shading or blending on this one (surprise!), just colored each area in one color only. Quick and easy! Using both Copics and Tombows was simply a matter of colors available. I really, really, really like the rich crimson red of Tombow's #847, yet I wanted a lighter blue than any of the Tombows. The Copic BG0000 was just what I needed.

A bit about the rest of today's card ... it's not at all what I envisioned starting out. Imagine me sitting there with my scrumptious Webster's Pages papers, bloomers, and trims trying to put together a vintage style card. It just was *not* happening. I switched gears altogether and went with this crisp and clean design. I love how it really sets off the ornament, especially that rich red! I had a rare one-stamp card going on, too -- right up until I added those silver pearls (in the four corners of the frame panel and also on the ornament, though difficult to see in the photo). I can't tell you how many dollar-plus postage cards I sent out last year - ouch! But every single one of those recipients was absolutely worth it!

Have a great day, and thanks so much for spending a bit of your day here with me. Your visits mean so much!

JustRite Week at Stamper's Dream - Day One!

It's Day One of a new JustRite Week at Stamper's Dream! We're featuring the latest JustRite release, which includes a host of new holiday images, plus two beautiful nature-themed sets. Can't wait for you to see what the Dream Team has cooked up for the week! Here's the schedule:

Monday: Michelle, Cindy, Denise, Laurie, and me

Tuesday: Denise, Cindy, Tosh, Cammie, and me

Wednesday: Laurie, Leslie, Karen, Christina, Tosh

Thursday: Michelle, Leslie, Christina, Karen, Cammie

For today's card, I've used Whimsical Christmas, a set of six centers and six borders for use with a 2" round stamper. I fell in love with this adorable bird on skates - so cute! I stamped on watercolor paper and colored with Tombow markers, then added a little white Liquid Applique on the earmuff and some Stardust Stickles on the snowflakes and mistletoe berries (at least that's what I hope she's got in her beak?) for added interest.

The first thing I thought of when I saw Basic Grey's Oliver collection was, oddly, Christmas :D With their rich reds and greens and even blues, some of the patterns, such as the green diamond pattern I've used in the background, make for great Christmas designs. Elsewhere on the card: an assortment of fun details including music paper scallops, a pinked rectangle of lightweight canvas (or muslin maybe?), some red and white baker's twine, and, of course, some random, perhaps gratuitous button spillage. I just can't help these ruts I get in {grin}.

Hope your week gets off to a great start!

Stamps: Whimsical Christmas (Just Rite Stamps)

Verve New Release Spotlight: Fabulous You

Verve has begun its countdown to our big Anni-Verve-sary release this Friday - yay!! New Release Spotlights began yesterday and continue through Thursday. Be sure to tune in to the Verve blog each day for a list of Divas with eye candy to share. Julee has also put together five amazing Anni-Verve-sary Sketch Challenges for big-time chances to win stamps. Details are posted HERE.

Friday's release is one of the biggest and definitely the best to date. I'm wild about every single one of the new sets, and I'm betting you will be, too! Today, I'm sharing a card made with Fabulous You.

This gorgeous set has eight magnificent sentiments geared toward encouraging and uplifting others, plus an elegant decorative frame and two coordinating accent elements. The font treatments on the sentiments are simply amazing! One of them, a sweet and simple "hi there" was the perfect fit for my design. For a shabby look, I've staggered the ends of the woven strips, ink distressed the paper edges, and incorporated some pinking on the paper edges.

Would you like to win today's spotlight sets? Leave comment love for the Divas on their spotlight posts and you'll automatically be entered into a hidden drawing for each day's sets!

Let's Hang Out

For today's Sketch For You To Try sample, I colored up this adorable new Halloween image from the Hang Out Spider Set by Stampendous. How could I resist a fellow candy corn lover??? YUM! The spider web paper in the background is from Basic Grey's Eerie collection, and the three horizontal text paper strips are from the trendy Basic Grey Basics collection (Manila). I loaded 'er up with fun stuff ... buttons, ricrac ribbon, and embroidery floss zigzag stitching. Both the spider's body/hat and the candy corn are stamped a second time and popped up over the first with foam adhesive.

Here's the sketch:

You'll definitely want to hang out with the rest of the SFYTT girls to get good and loaded up with sketchy inspiration. Enjoy!

Time to Bloom

Here's a quick, sorta clean and simple card for today. I made the sunflower using My Favorite Things' Sunshine Die-namics die. Along the bottom is a ricrac border cut from natural canvas fabric using MFT's Jumtbo RicRac Die-namics die. The leaf and stem ribbon is by May Arts, I believe, and the Kraft Wavy Scallop Envelope is by Maya Road. The washer style button is from Papertrey. The sentiment is from MFT's Green Thumb Mini. The open scallop border along the bottom was punched out of a separate piece of Dark Chocolate card stock using Martha Stewart's Optic Dots border punch. I've tucked it behind the card base such that only the lower portion of the punched design shows. Hope that makes sense!

Thanks for stopping by! Hope you're having a great week!

Amazing Grace

I've been on a cleaning/purging rampage at home the past few days, and it feels sooooo good! I'm a pack-rat through and through, so I have to take advantage when the rare purging mood strikes. Can't wait for trash day tomorrow when this mountain of junk get hauled away for good!

I took some time off last night to play along with this week's Mojo Monday sketch:

Isn't that a fun one? The sentiment is Verve's Amazing Grace Plain Jane, and the cross image is from Verve's Blessed Christmas. Have you shopped Verve's Anni-VERVE-sary sale yet? Everything released in our 1st year is 30% off, everything from our 2nd year is 20% off and everything from our 3rd year is 10% off! Sale prices are in effect through August 14, while supplies last.

Le Romantique SFYTT

Earlier in the week, I mentioned my current obsession with Graphic45's "Le Romantique" paper line, Webster's Pages trims, and JustRite's awesome sentiments. Today, I have three more cards to share. First up is a card I made using Jen's Sketch For You To Try for this week:

For the sentiment circle, I've combined a sentiment from Birthday Centers with a frame from Decorative Wide Borders. The two trims are both from the Sea & Garden Trim Collection by Webster's Pages. On the greenish-blue one, I threaded some Offray 1/8" ivory satin ribbon through the center of the trim and topped with a loopy bow. On the glittery Melissa Frances chipboard heart, I added two more of those little postage stamp images (also from the Le Romantique pack). The long vertical panel with the woman's face on it is also from one of the Le Romantique patterns.

Check out the awesome variations on today's sketch:

Here, I cut out a vintage image from one of the Le Romantique patterns to use as a focal image. The sentiment again comes from JustRite's Birthday Centers (not just for birthdays, by the way). I had to work in some more of those adorable little postage stamps, too - they make me happy!

Last, I used another of the vintage cut-outs for a focal image, along with more teeny postage stamps. The sentiment here is from JustRite's All Occasion Nested Centers and Verse (I inked just the word "Love" in "I Love You"). At the top is a partial die-cut using Spellbinders Labels Four Nestabilties and along the bottom are a Martha Stewart Optic Dots border punch, some Webster's Pages trim and cream seam binding. The fabric rose is from Webster's Pages' Bloomers Fabric Flower Trim. The trinket pins are by Maya Road.

Thanks for visiting, and have a great weekend!

Faith, Hope, Love

It started with THIS and THIS, which arrived earlier this week in a Stamper's Dream package. I added THIS, which has been in my stash for a while but hasn't gotten nearly enough attention. The result? A complete takeover of my craft room. I can't seem to stop! But I'm going to be mean and show you only one of my cards today.

I love all the vintage images Graphic 45 incorporates into their paper designs - the tiny postage stamp images on today's card, for example. They're from a pattern in the Le Romantique collection. The whole 8"x8" sheet is covered with these little darlings. It would make a gorgeous background layer indeed, but for today, I cut a few strips of them to use as accent layers instead. The "Faith, hope, love" sentiment is from JustRite's Loving Thoughts set.

Along the bottom are three strips of various trims: Webster's Pages Bloomers Fabric Flower Trim in that gorgeous soft peach color, some luscious Maya Road velvet scalloped ricrac, and some rich brown lace from the Sea & Garden Trim Collection by Webster's Pages. Hand stitching, distressed edges, distress inks and buttons round out the shabby, romantic look.

On the inside, I included a Congratulations sentiment from JustRite's All Occasion Nested Centers & Verse set. Anyone getting married? This needs a good home!

Hugs!
