2016 Anniversary Set: Painted Petals

There aren't enough superlatives for this year's anniversary set -- Painted Petals! Gorgeous, breathtaking, beautiful, dreamy ... I could go on and on!

My first two cards are very similar. This one features both stamped and die-cut flowers and stamped-only flowers. 

I did some ink blending in Aqua Mist in the background, added some splatter, and then framed with just the outside piece of the new Cover Plate: Pretty Frame die.

This one features stamped and die-cut flowers over a background that has a watercolor look. To get the water lines and the splotchy look, I sponged on Aqua Mist ink, then dropped on some water using a paintbrush and let the panel air-dry.

I used the inside piece of the Cover Plate: Pretty Frame this time and arranged the flowers on the right. "Sending" was heat embossed in white (before sponging and adding water).

I love how the coneflower turned out on this one. The petals are stamped in Raspberry Fizz and Autumn Rose. The center is stamped in Summer Sunrise first. Then I used a sponge dauber to pounce Scarlet Jewel onto just the lower part of the image. I did this a few times to get the coverage I wanted.

Next, I played around with one-layer stamping. I love the look of the leafy border and open space in the center. 

After doing all the stamping, I sponged Spring Moss around the perimeter and Aqua Mist in the center for some added interest.

Using all the supplies already out from the card above, and inspired by Heather, I challenged myself to create another quick card. (I even set a timer!)

This time I stamped my leafy border and flowers, then trimmed on the diagonal. I layered the stamped piece over a thin strip of Ripe Avocado card stock, then onto a Fresh Snow linen card base. Last, I stamped the sentiment and added one more Lavender Moon flower trio above the "g." Elapsed time: 8:03!

New Moments Inked

Papertrey Ink is coming out with some fabulous additions to the Moments Inked Planner collection:

Let's go through these one-by-one:

Binder: Listed

I used this die right away to make two divider tabs -- one to help me flip right to the current week's spread; and one to mark the currently daily page. 

Since these are just dividers that I don't plan on writing on, I die-cut one from vellum (I think I will probably laminate that at some point) ...

... and one from a plastic two-pocket file folder from the office supply store. 

Obviously, if you use this die on paper, then you can use all of the stamps in the Listed stamp set to stamp lines and list titles. I'm definitely a list-maker (and a binder girl), so I know I'll get lots of use out of this die.

Posted II

Anything to make planning quicker and more efficient is a win in my book, so being able to stamp the lines on the longer Post-It notes with just one impression is very welcome, indeed. 

Posted II has the the header box and lines to cover the longer list, as well as a numbered list and some new header titles. If you prefer the checkboxes or other icons from the original Posted, remember two impressions of those will work, too.

Everyday Symbols

Loving these!! Here's a look at last week's spread in my planner. It's messy and crowded, just like life! I used the doctor appointment, hair appointment, dollar sign, and don't forget icons.

FYI, the flower stamping was done with Heather's new Be stamp set, which is also releasing on the 15th. I just added the doodling around it with a superfine black pen (inspired by Ashley!)

And here's a look at this week. My youngest has been begging to participate in a certain parks and rec activity. Registration opened on the 11th, and I absolutely could not forget to get him signed up! I stamped the icon onto a sticky note tab that I cut using one of the dies in the Moments Inked: Divided die set. Since the tab is sticky only along the top, it was easy to remove after I had completed his registration.

I used the envelope image as a reminder to make sure my youngest didn't forget his Valentines yesterday. The box around it is from the Clipsters Make It Market Mini Kit. I just went ahead and stamped those images directly onto the page. (Anything that might have to move I like to stamp onto the adhesive sheets. Also anything stamped in one of the really dark inks, since they tend to show through to the other side.)

Perpetual Daily Pages (available in binder or spiral format)

The pages will look very familiar, with a few changes. The pages are undated, perpetual pages now, meaning you simply indicate the date by highlighting today's month and date. I love that you can simply circle the month and date or get creative with stamps. I used an arrow image from Clipsters to mark the month, and a flower center from Be to mark the date. (If you have the Family Banners, the little circle in that set is perfect -- mine has disappeared!) I also like to add the day of the week too, as I find that helpful. I've used Monthly Moments: Tabbed to stamp the day of the week.

I also like that with this undated format, if you skip a day or days, those pages aren't wasted.

The "Be Prepared" header has been removed from the top three numbered checkboxes. Now, the open header space can be customized to your needs. I've been thinking of different ways to use this section, and for now, I've decided to use it as a prayer short list. All it takes is a quick scroll through my Facebook feed to be reminded that so many people are struggling. Writing down names and needs in my planner will be a great way to remember to pray for them.

Focus, Gratitude, Nourish, Water Intake, Be Active, and Memorable Moment have stayed the same, or nearly the same. Apparently, survey feedback indicated the Indulge section wasn't particular popular, so it has been redesigned as a generic two-bullet list that you can customize. So, what, are we not pampering ourselves? That's kind of sad! 

I'm going to try using this section to track my vitamins. I'm horrible about remembering to take them. It drives me crazy to have to leave a box unchecked that is supposed to be checked, so hopefully this will help me be more consistent.

I'd have to say the gratitude section was my favorite part of the daily pages last year, so much so that this year I created a separate gratitude section in my planner. (That is going to be the topic of this coming Monday's Moments Inked newsletter, so be on the look-out for that Monday morning.) Since I'm recording daily gratitude elsewhere now, I thought I'd re-purpose that section on the daily page into a habit builder/tracker. What is the saying? It takes 21 days to build a new habit? That sure seems quick! I'm going to try focusing on developing three new habits each month, and will track them in this space. Thirty-six new good habits at the end of the year sounds pretty good! 

I covered the gratitude label with washi tape (quick and easy enough to do every day), then added a stamped "Habits" label (stamped with Pencilgrams) that I die-cut with the new Binder: Listed die. On this page, I stamped the word "February" using Monthly Moments: Year Round Mini stamp set. 

On this page, the word February, from the Monthly Moments: Tabbed stamp set, is stamped onto another Listed label die-cut. "Habits" was stamped with the Pencilgrams alphabet. The label is cut from an adhesive sheet, so I can easily move it to the next day if I don't want to stamp one for each day. 

Another thing I forgot to mention, the top right corner of each page is perforated. When you're finished with that page, turn down or tear off the corner, which allows you to quickly locate the current day. I really like this feature for the spiral version especially. 

Speaking of the spiral version, I'm really liking the idea of a binder planner + spiral daily pages. No more flipping back and forth between the weekly spread and the daily page. I think I might be switching to that!

New Make It Market Mini Kit: Color Pop Florals

Today's Papertrey Ink group post features Betsy Veldman's newest Make It Market Mini Kit: Color Pop Florals. This is such a fun product collection -- it's got stencils, folks -- whoop! Everything is designed in such a way that you can't wait to just play, play, play. Whether you stick with stamps and ink and paper or add in some different mediums and materials, like modeling paste, watercolor, fabric paint and fabric, spritzes and mists, you're sure to have fun exploring all the different possibilities. I have two cards to share today and a big pile of extra panels just waiting to be turned into cards and other projects.

The Make It Market Mini Kit: Color Pop Florals, along with all of the other February release products, will be available at 10 pm EST February 15 in the Papertrey Ink store.

For my first card, I chose one of the ready-to-stencil patterns in the Color Pop Florals paper collection. The background is black and all of the flowers and leaves are white, just waiting for that pop of color. The three different stencils line up perfectly with the white shapes, making it super easy to inking on color exactly and only where you want it. After I did the sponging, I went back in with the detail images, stamping some in color and embossing others in white.

I love the bold look of the colorful background. It reminds me of fabric. Behind the gold sentiment (die-cut from a Luxe Gold Adhesive sheet), I softened the pattern with a circle of vellum framed with Hibiscus Burst card stock. For contrast I added a simple strip of black and white striped paper, and last I added a stenciled/stamped/die-cut flower accent to the pink frame.

For my next card, I wanted to try a whole different look, something much softer. I used the Color Pop Florals large flower stencil to ink the large flowers in white and the leaves in turquoise, all on an Aqua Mist panel. Next, I used the small flower trio stencil and spread on some white embossing paste. Last, I added the flower and leaf details using stamps and ink.

The white large flowers are a nice subtle look. They're a little more pronounced in real life than in the photos. The sentiment is die-cut three times and stacked for some extra weight.

In the centers of each small flower, I added some black dots with a fine-tip Sharpie.

New Products for Spring & Egg Hunt

Today is a Papertrey Ink group post sharing lots of new products for spring. It is also the annual scavenger hunt, and the photo above is the one to look at to see how many egg icons are hidden here. You can click the photo to see it larger.

We're cruising on through Papertrey's 9th anniversary celebration. Today is Day 7 of 10, and our featured products for today are some super cute Easter and spring goodies. Bunny Basket by Heather Nichols is a darling set filled with iconic Easter/Spring images. Lizzie Jones has designed the most adorable Simply Spring Borders set that has such a storybook charm. Lots of dies today as well, including a Basket cover plate, Easter Grass, and a unique frame-style die from Maile Belles called Shaped Sayings: Easter. 

Let's get started!

I found some tutorials on YouTube for how to make cute mini gift boxes using an envelope punch board. This one, which holds two Cadbury Eggs, was my favorite. With just a few punches and score lines, these boxes could't be any easier to put together! And the Paper Basics + White collections in Bright Buttercup and Lovely Lady work so beautifully for Easter!

I used the Easter Grass die to make a grass fringe for each box. I layered three die-cuts together, off-setting them for a little height variation. Although the die is a little wider than A2 I found if I cut the fringe pieces from an A2 card panel, it wrapped around exactly half of the box. Layer three more together to go around the rest of the box. 

I tucked in some pretty stamped and die-cut easter eggs from Bunny Basket, along with a sentiment, also from Bunny Basket.

I did my closure a little differently. Instead of wrapping the corners, one over the other, envelope-style, I pulled both corners together and pinched them closed with a clothespin that I topped off with the bunny image from Bunny Basket.

I stamped the bunny ear insides in white and gave him some linen thread whiskers for a fun detail.

My next project features Maile's Shaped Sayings: Easter die. I die-cut and stacked a few of these in Hibiscus Burst and white for both dimension and added stability, then layered it over an inlaid Shaker Shapes: Circle die-cut in Lemon Tart and Orange Zest. Floral accents are from Clippings: Happy Day, and the stitched leaves are from Songbirds.

The focal point embellished sentiment circle is layered over a Cover Plate Horizontal Stripes in white and then onto a white card base. In between, for some subtle added interest, is a layer of polka dot Sheer Basics Vellum. The white accents on the sentiment were done with a white gel pen. I love how Kay Miller adds white gel pen accents, so thanks for the inspiration, Kay!

Introducing Tulip Time, Spring Woods, and Splits

The Papertrey ninth anniversary festivities continue today with lots more incredible product introductions. Today on the docket: Tulip Time by Betsy, Spring Woods by Nichole and a new series from Maile called Splits. The first in that series is Splits: Just A Note. In addition, there are some Friendship Jar goodies that fans of that series have been requesting!

All of the new products will be available at 10 pm EST February 15 in the Papertrey Ink store.

I couldn't wait to give the beautiful Tulip Time multi-step images a go, especially in shades of yellow. The new Bright Buttercup is a perfect middle tone between Lemon Zest and Summer Sunrise, which are the other two colors I used on the tulips. For the leaves and stems, Ripe Avocado over Spring Moss is always a favorite.

In the background I sponged a touch of Aqua Mist over one of the new Modern Backgrounds stencils. I cannot even tell you how excited I am about these stencils! 

I arranged multiple scalloped frames over the background for a fun look. I can't take credit for that idea, and I can't give credit either, because I really don't know where it came from. Maybe a fellow paper crafter did something similar? I wish I could remember!

Anyway I love the soft, sweet look of the frames and the hint of aqua mist in the background. The whole card feels so fresh and spring-like!
