Sing to the Lord {Again}

Happy Monday, crafties. Hope you had a wonderful weekend. I enjoyed spending most of it with my parents, who came up to watch my niece's gymnastics meet. I also did a ton of painting in the master bathroom. It felt great to finish up with the painting yesterday, especially since my parents took my youngest back home with them for a couple of days. Tomorrow, the new cabinets and countertops will be installed, but today, while the older two are in school, I'm free to ...... stamp, of course! I'm ready to trade the home improvement hat for papercrafting again!

Since I haven't created anything new in a while, I'm posting an oldie today. I made this over two years ago during my Splitcoast Dirty Dozen tenure. I'm kind of past the point of being able to show this stuff, as trends and styles change a lot in two short years. Not to mention this photo looks so dark. I guess my photography has changed too! Here we go anyway, since it's been pretty dry around here :)

The beautiful stamps are from Sing to the Lord by Our Daily Bread Designs. I feel so fortunate to have been able to spend a little over a year on their design team in '08 and '09 -- amazing illustrated images and majority Scripture sentiments. I honestly can't remember many details for this card, so I'll just post the supply list below.

To Everything There Is A Season

Today I'm sharing the second of the two cards I made for the Scrapbook News & Review feature back in April. It's Divine Design day, too, a day set aside each month to share a papercrafting project that helps us commit more of God's Word to memory. (I haven't played along in a while.)

I don't share a lot of personal stuff on my blog, but I am today - a little Sunday sermon of sorts. The week before last, I had a particularly tough week. I was cranky, stressed out, and feeling especially frazzled trying to keep up with my super curious, strong-willed, tw0-year-old mess-maker. You know it's bad when it's only Tuesday and only 9:30 in the morning at that, and you're already silently vowing to yourself, "I will not yell at anyone today, I will not yell at anyone today, I will not yell at anyone today." Have days like that? Weeks like that?

Many years ago, when I was similarly frazzled by my now-8-year-old (is it a boy thing? my dd was so EASY), I happened upon a wonderful devotional that I can't even think about without choking up. It spoke that powerfully to me. It was an excerpt from Cheri Fuller's Quiet Whispers from God's Heart for Women, and it had to do with feeling like your days as a mom of young children are like stringing beads all day only to find out at the end of the day that you forgot to tie a knot at the end of the string. I can relate ... beds that are made get slept in, floors that are swept clean get spilled on, toys that are picked up get strewn around again. The week before last, I needed God's gentle reminder (through re-reading this devotional) that by serving my little ones, I am serving Him. This is a season, and one that will pass far too quickly. I am so blessed that I get to make beds, fold clothes, prepare meals, clean up spills, pick up toys, wipe runny noses, etc. - though those things may not always look or feel like blessings at the time. I never want to take for granted this amazing responsibility God Himself has given me - being mom to these three precious children of mine.

Quiet Waters Goes Metallic

I was doing some stamp room cleaning the other day and rediscovered some miscellaneous odds and ends, including a sampling of the beautiful Prism metallic cardstocks that Our Daily Bread Designs carries and a small piece of glossy card stock that I had inked up with a friend's alcohol inks a while back (thanks Marti!). I thought I'd put the two together and see what I could come up with.

I stamped the image from Quiet Waters, one of the new Our Daily Bread Designs sets, in Jet Black Staz-On onto the alcohol-inked background piece and then cut it down to a circle using Nestabilities. The rest of the layers are done using various Spellbinders dies (Classic Frame and Labels 3 Nesties) on Bronze, Copper, and Champagne metallic card stocks. The Champagne background layer is scored around the perimeter using a Scor-Pal and pierced and dry embossed using Spellbinders Piercabilities. The bronze flourish at the bottom was cut using a Spellbinders Flourish Accent die, and the pearls are from Stampin' Up's Pretties kit.

Here you can see the dry embossed part of the Piercabilities much better, as well as some of the shimmer of the metallic card stock:




This shot shows how shimmery this metallic card stock really is - it's really amazing stuff!

Blessed is the Man Who Listens

It wouldn't take reading through more than a week or two of my posts to see that I'm nuts about K&Co papers! I thought the grays in one of the floral patterns from the {new-to-me} Madeleine collection would be a perfect complement to the beautiful door image from Our Daily Bread Designs' Ask, Seek, Knock. I colored with Copics, using some rich browns for the door and a mixture of grays and grayish-greens for the stonework. I bumped up the size of the card to 5x7, a size I enjoy turning to here and there, and *still* couldn't find the real estate to include the Scripture on the front - something is wrong with that! LOL. So I added that to the inside, along with some minimal decorating.



The layout is from Splitcoast's Sketch Challenge last Wednesday, #232.

Streams of Living Water

Here's another look at Quiet Waters by Our Daily Bread Designs. The inspiration for this came from three places. First was THIS BEAUTY (breathtaking!) by Sandee Shanabrough, one of ODBD's current guest designers. Second, ANOTHER BEAUTY by fellow ODBD DT sister Angella Crockett. And third, my blog friend Silke Ledlow, who turns white space into art like nobody else. So thanks, ladies, for the inspiration - I love how this one came out!

I stamped on watercolor paper with a freshly re-inked Jet Black Staz-On inkpad (nice and juicy), then watercolored with a water brush and Stampin' Up re-inkers. The image panel is die-cut with one of the Labels 4 Nestabilities by Spellbinders. The scripture panel is die-cut with one of the Mega Curved Rectangles Nestabilities, also by Spellbinders. I created the scored pattern with my Scor-Pal (you can find a basic how-to HERE), and finished off with some edge distressing, ribbon, a hat pin, and pearls. The card base and layered panels are all watercolor paper (a type that I don't care for for watercoloring, but it makes wonderful, thick, textured card bases).

Prayer Journal

Today marks the release of two new and highly anticipated sets from Our Daily Bread Designs.

Quiet Waters:





I've focused on the Matthew 6:6 Scripture stamp from Ask, Seek, Knock, and fashioned myself a prayer journal. I covered the front and back of an inexpensive store-bought notebook as well as the pen with papers from Memory Box's Brandywine line, then added the Scripture and some embellishments. The frame is the Spellbinders Classic Frame, and the Scripture panel is die-cut from Papertrey Vintage Cream cardstock using a Spellbinders Labels 4 Nestie. The ribbons are from Offray, the Fleur De Lis border punch is by EK Success, the pearls are by Hero Arts, and the black scrollwork is an adhesive felt die-cut by Queen & Co (I think).

I've always loved architecture, especially that with some age on it, so I've really taken a fancy to this old wooden door image from Ask, Seek, Knock (to be released on Monday, June 1). Quiet Waters

I'm excited to show you a peek at one of the new sets coming from Our Daily Bread Designs next week: Quiet Waters. This image is so serene and peaceful - and perfectly suits the Scripture passages that make up the rest of the set. I wanted a light, soft look to go along with the pastel colors of Basic Grey's Wisteria papers, so I stamped in Memento London Fog (a grey ink), then lightly colored with Prismacolors. The Scripture is tucked in the inside with a little bit of decorating:

Sorry so long without any updates! Busy time of year, huh? I've had two of these three cards in partial stages of completion since the end of last week and finally got them finished last night. They all use the powerful new patriotic sets released earlier this month by Our Daily Bread Designs.

For this first one, I've (once again) turned to a vintage look. I can't help it - I just love how well these sets look with a little aging and distressing! The eagle is from the set In God We Trust, and the sentiment is from God Bless America. I stamped in Versafine Onyx black onto watercolor paper, clear embossed, and then colored with a water brush and reinkers.


For this next one, I went with a more vibrant variation of the red, white and blue color scheme, which is easy to achieve with the fantastic patriotic papers available in the ODBD store.



The gorgeous, lifelike image of the American flag is watercolored with a water brush and reinkers. After it dried, I colored in the stars with a white gel pen. I trimmed down the image a little bit to show a little more of the background paper.


Last, I wanted to show how these sets aren't limited to patriotic colors. (Well that and I just couldn't wait to break into my new Wisteria paper pack by Basic Grey, which just arrived yesterday - LOL!)



The oval on top of a Top Note diecut is one of my go-to arrangements - love the way it looks! I accented with some paper pleating, which I almost entirely covered up (oh well!) and a flower and flourish combo. Easy!

I Pledge Allegiance

Today, I have something to show using the new I Pledge Allegiance stamp from Our Daily Bread Designs. The paper is an old, old K&Co pattern from my stash (I'm guessing at least 2-3 years old). I added the stitching, but otherwise, the paper came already blocked. I did some heavy distressing to the sentiment panel using a distressing tool and Ranger Distress Inks, including tearing some slits and roughing them up for an even more aged look. The little pieces of hardware on the sentiment panel are by 7 Gypsies, and are threaded with some natural colored burlap string. Some piercing and brads in the corners provide the finishing touch.

The design team also added a little fun to the sketch, and so we are each working with a specific new product that Kelley is now carrying in the ODBD store. I know I've mentioned before that she's expanded the store considerably. The DT is having the best time playing with all the new goodies and we hope you will too! My product focus was either the Porcelain or Marrakech paper collections by Basic Grey. Hmmmm... Porcelain or Marrakech with patriotic sets? "Can't be done!" was my first thought. But here ya go - proof that you need not stay within the red/white/blue box for these awesome sets! Many of the other Bread Basket girls (our affectionate name for the DT) have also found creative ways to use products not specifically patriotic in nature. That said, for times when you DO want to use patriotic colors and papers, be sure to check out the collection of patriotic papers in the store. You can see them featured on the ODBD home page.

This is a more clean-and-simple card than my normal style, and I really like it! Believe me, I tried adding a whole lot of layers and embellishments, because, well, that's just what I do (LOL!), but I kept taking them back off because this is what looked best to me!

Welcome Little Baby

I am seriously having way too much fun with the papers from My Mind's Eye Bloom and Grow "Grow" collection (that's a mouthful, huh?). Today's card uses an image and sentiment from Children of God by Our Daily Bread Designs. I stamped the image of Jesus with the children (the full image shows a full-length Jesus and also has a young child standing to Jesus's right) in Versafine Onyx Black, clear embossed, and then cut out just the part of the image with Jesus holding the baby. Coloring is done with Copic markers.

All the ivory parts are cut with Spellbinders dies (circle Nestabilities, Labels 4 Nestabilities, and Double Ended Tags) and sponged with Old Paper Distress Ink for an aged look. I popped up the circles for some dimension. The beautiful ribbon is my latest addiction - Papertrey's Aqua Mist satin ribbon. Scrumptious! I colored white brads with a Copic marker to get the aqua color. The die-cut orange border along the bottom was done with the Fancy Scalloped Border Piercabilities, also by Spellbinders.

Love One Another

Earlier this month, Our Daily Bread Designs released three different sets perfect for celebrating weddings and anniversaries (and so much more). I've enjoyed playing with the Scripture stamps for my projects so far - the font treatments are just so gorgeous. This is the first I've inked up the sweet image of two intertwined hearts found in Love One Another. So pretty with the ribbon wrapped around them and the rose cluster! I stamped on Neenah white card stock and colored with Copic markers. The sentiment is clear embossed. The image and Scripture panel is cut with Labels 1 Nestabilities (which are now available in the ODBD store - yippee!). For the piercing and decorative borders, I used the Ric Rac Scalloped Piercabilities by Spellbinders. The designer papers are from Basic Grey's Porcelain collection, also available from ODBD.

New Baby Blessings

Hi friends! Hope you each had a blessed Easter!

Today, I have a couple of things to show that I made with the new Children of God set by Our Daily Bread Designs. First up is this soft and feminine baby girl card. I just love the pretty papers and colors on this one! I had to decorate the inside too ...



For this next card, I wanted to show the image of Jesus with the children as well as one of the Scripture stamps from the same set (Children of God). I love that the Scripture selections in the set are not limited to only baby cards. As usual, the Scripture choices in this set are fantastic!

When I got married, my husband and I, like so many others, had 1 Corinthians 13 read at our wedding. My twin sister and maid of honor, Jennifer, read the passage for us. It was an evening wedding in November, so I went pretty formal with the ceremony, opting for the Scripture to be read in the beautiful sounding King James version - you know, the one full of "eths": "love never faileth," "does not vaunteth itself," "rejoiceth in the truth," etc. My sister, a mischief-maker and jokester who loves to torment me, threatened to end the reading with, "and the greatest of these is loveth." She didn't, but to this day, when I read this passage, I get a good chuckle at the thought.

You won't find any extra "eth's" in the new love- and wedding-theme stamps just released by Our Daily Bread Designs. These are some gorgeous sets! I paired the last verse from 1 Corinthians 13 (from the set called Love) with some yummy La Creme designer paper by Die Cuts With a View to create a classy black-white-ivory wedding card. I included the wedding sentiment (from Love One Another) on the inside:

Lovely Color Challenge Combo

I was all smiles late last night when I saw today's color challenge on Splitcoast: Riding Hood Red, Pink Pirouette, and Chocolate Chip. I knew the combo would be perfect for some new stamps that Our Daily Bread Designs is releasing tomorrow, April 1. The one I was itching to work with first is a single stamp of a passage from 1 Corinthains 13. Is this not one of the most beautiful passages in the entire Bible?

I stamped it onto Prism's luxurious metallic card stock (Champagne), clear embossed, and cut it out with one of the mega curved rectangle Nestabilities. The designer papers are all from Basic Grey's Porcelain pack. I embellished with some Stampin' Up Riding Hood Red ribbon, the Fiskars lace border punch, and some self-adhesive pearls. Mine are a mix of brands similar to the ones in the ODBD store. Some were ivory and some were white, but after coloring each one with a R81 Copic marker (the closest thing to Pink Pirouette that I own), they look pretty uniform.

If you like "pretty," soak this one in because tonight at midnight I'll be posting one of the wildest looking things I've ever made! I'm kinda skeered - really!
