I have a super fun card to share today, but first, the backstory:
My husband worked tirelessly throughout last weekend's big storm snow-blowing our driveway and trying not to fall too far behind (we got 34 inches in about as many hours!). In the aftermath, he helped some of the neighbors open their driveways, cleared a path to the mailbox, removed snow from our porch roof, and countless other snow-related things that needed doing. Honestly, if it were up to me, we'd still be snowbound -- sad truth.
My husband also happens to love Mountain Dew.
And I happen to have the perfect products for the perfect thank-you for him: Soda Pop stamps and Soda Pop Bottles and Bottlecaps dies from My Favorite Things. These products, designed by Laina Lamb for MFT, are so unique and fun and playful, especially with all the different soda-related sentiments and puns.
I wanted to capture that wholly unnatural neon yellow-green color of Mountain Dew, which I was able to do with Twisted Citron and Squeezed Lemonade Distress Inks. I created a fizzy background by sponging on the two inks, then splashing with water and letting the ink move around and blend a little. Last, I added a light mist using Twisted Citron ink.
The sentiment is white embossed, half on black card stock and half on a strip of torn vellum. I sponged ink on the pop bottle die-cuts, then added the label details and die-cut straws. I kept the accents minimal -- just a few wood veneer stars.
My husband loved his card!
And I had so much fun making it that I decided to make a second one in different colors and with a different sentiment:
On this one, I added some Rainstones to get the look of bubbles, and I did the sentiment a tiny bit differently.
Stop back by tomorrow for yet another Soda Pop project!
Until then, I'll leave you with this poem my kids and I used to love reading together:
Pop bottles pop-bottles
In pop shops;
The pop-bottles Pop bottles
Poor Pop drops.
When Pop drops pop-bottles
pop-bottles plop!
Pop-bottle-tops topple!
Pop mops slop!
Stop! Pop'll drop bottle!
Stop, Pop, stop!
When Pop bottles pop-bottles
pop-bottles pop!

Love your cards as well as the poem...very cute.
love your colors and background Amy.
Fabulous cards! You are so sweet to give your DH a special card for all the snow clean up. It's a VERY big job to clean 34" of snow for you and some neighbors, too! Living in the Northeast, we've done it many times and can so appreciate all the hard work involved.
Cute poem :)
Love the colors and the stamps.
Hennie
LOVE the cards sweetie - the colors in both so gorgeous - and glad you're shoveled out. i'm so over it (and so is every bone in my body LOL))
Your cards are sweet as can be, I have been eyeing that MFT set, might have to give in to temptation! We have 20 inches of snow coming Tuesday!
These are both fabulous, Amy! I bought these stamps and dies to make birthday cards for my Sunday School girls... Thanks for the inspiration!
Great cards, Amy. I love the bright colours against the snowy (!) white background. Loved the story of your husband's weekend too, bless him, I was tired reading it!!
Julie :o)
Darling and clever cards. Your hubbie is a very good guy, very deserving of a thank you card. I live in MN and we've hardly had any snow this winter. I'm like you - love to watch the snow but I don't want to deal with removing it. I'd rather make cards.
they are both gorgeous, Amy! lovely idea to surprise your husband!
Darling and FUNN!
I cannot tell you how much I love both of these cards Amy!! Your watercoloring and blending are both amazing! Perfect card for your great guy!!
Amy, I was so inspired by your cards that I made one of my own. It's on my blog today -- thanks for the inspiration! http://leighpenner.blogspot.ca/2016/01/mft-wednesday-sketch-challenge-265.html
Good grief, Amy. You're amazing. I should not be visiting your blog - too much enabling going on!
