Happy New Year wishes to all! May God's blessings pour out over each one of you in 2010! The past two years that I've been blogging have brought me unexpected amounts of joy. I treasure the friendships I've formed and value each and every visitor to my blog, and I am humbled when you choose to spend your valuable time stopping here for a quick visit. If I could, I would pour you a cup of tea and pull up two chairs for a chat! Thank you for all the encouragement in 2009 - can't wait to see what unfolds in 2010!
The new year brings lots of new faces to the My Favorite Things Design Team. Stop by Kim's blog to see her announcement of the new DT and to welcome both the new and returning designers. I'm thrilled to be staying on with MFT for another term! It's been an honor to design for Kim and to be part of such an amazingly talented group of stampers.
To celebrate the new year and the beginning of another design team term, I'm posting one of my favorite MFT projects, a card that I made last January during my final month on the Splitcoast Dirty Dozen Design Team, which was also my very first month on the MFT DT.
Our theme was Making a House A Home. For this card, I drew inspiration from one of my kids' favorite family traditions - Dessert Night, which we do every Saturday. If you ask me, it's the people, memories, traditions, habits, and celebrations that make a house a home far more than any material object.
The layout was based on a sketch by Judy Rozema. I used a double-sided designer paper, so that I could wrap the triangle points around the green frame to create the interesting overlapping diamond and square. The striped paper is the back side of the green with the little flowers on it. It took a bit of engineering to get everything to come out right, but it was a ton of fun to make. I would recommend using a relatively thin designer paper if you try something like this. The paper I used was more of a card stock weight, and you can see some unsightly bend marks where I curled my points back.
The ice cream cones and sentiment are from MFT's Here's the Scoop. The cones have been colored with Copics, trimmed out, coated with Diamond Glaze and popped up for dimension. And right now, they are making me hungry! Black-eyed peas, anyone? ;)
