JustRite Friday Sketch Challenge

Stamper's Dream is proudly sponsoring this week's JustRite Friday Challenge. Tosh has drawn up an awesome sketch, and one lucky winner will enjoy a $50 Stamper's Dream gift certificate! Not only that, three honorable mentions will win a JustRite stamp set of their choice! Be sure to check out Cammie's, Michelle's and Tosh's sketch samples, too. Challenge details, including how to link up your creation, are over at the JustRite Inspiration Blog. You have until next Thursday (May 6) at 9 am Central to play along - good luck!

Here's the sketch:

As you can see, I flipped the sketch to suit the vertical oval of this beautiful lighthouse image from the new By the Sea set. If you haven't seen this set of four nautical images (plus four coordinating borders), I hope you'll click on that link and take a look - just gorgeous! Sigh.... Makes me long for the beach.

My lighthouse is stamped on Neenah Classic Crest Solar White card stock, then colored with Prismacolor pencils and blended with Gamsol and blending stumps. I knew I'd be using ivory cardstock elsewhere in the design, so I toned down the stark white by inking the perimeter with Ranger Antique Linen Distress Ink. (I tried coloring the image on ivory/natural card stocks, too, but oddly enough preferred the brightness of the white version, especially with the clouds and the yellow lightbeams.) I cut out the image with Spellbinders oval Nestabilities and roughed up the edges with a distressing tool. The ivory oval frame was done with Labels 10 and classic oval Nestabilities.

For the two narrow stips that ground the main image, I used a combination of a distressed Kraft strip and some pleated 5/8" natural twill. The sailor's knot, done with some rope twine from Stampin' Up, was inspired by this card designed by Barbara Anders. The ends of the rope twine have been fed through some jumbo eyelets and secured to the back of the background panel. That entire panel is popped up with foam tape.

The Martha Stewart Deco Shells border punch makes a cameo appearance along the left of the large blue panel. A full border strip was too much, but I thought why not include just a snippet? I like it! It's hard to see in the photo, but I also placed a teeny tiny clear rhinestone on the lighthouse light and then dotted on some clear glitter along the beams.

Thanks for stopping by, and Happy Friday!
