Introducing Petite Places

Welcome to DAY SIX of Papertrey Ink's 8th Anniversary release countdown! Today, we are pleased to introduce a new series, Petite Places, by Betsy Veldman. That's right -- more adorable miniature buildings and scene-building accessories to join the wildly popular Tinsel & Tags stamps and dies. First up is a sweet church building, some darling pop-up trees, and lots of circular scene builder dies for use both inside domes and out.

My first project is a dome that I created as a baptism gift topper. I just love these miniatures, and the church is perfect for Easter, weddings, and baptisms. I've wrapped a small Bible in some of the new vellum, then placed the dome on top.

I stamped the baptism sentiment and punched it into a simple oval before tying it onto the dome.

The church is die-cut from Soft Stone, then stamped in Soft Stone with the coordinating images. The windows, die-cut from white card stock, are an additional layer. I cut the base out of Spring Moss card stock using the Basic Backer Die. After die-cutting the Petite Places: Pop-Up Trees, I colored them with a slightly darker green Copic marker. The grassy flakes are a Terra Textures Spring Green Natural Flakes. Some flower sequins add fun pops of color and help give the whole scene that springtime feel. You'll need a second backer or some other bottom layer, since the pop-up trees leave holes in the backer. In addition, I cut another Basic Backer out of Aqua Mist card stock, then cut out the center using a Spellbinders circle die, leaving just a thin frame around the perimeter of the backer. The whole dome rests on a Kaisercraft crochet doily from my stash. It fit perfectly!

Here's a look at the back side of the church, as well as a good look at the pop-up trees. Love that circular window on the back wall of the church! (And yes, there's "grass" in the windows -- I accidentally dropped the dome and the flakes went everywhere! I think next time I'll try rubbing the inside of the dome, and even the card stock elements, with some kind of anti-static cloth. That might help keep the stray flakes at bay a bit. Or, I could just not drop it!)

I cut a second roof piece, stamped it in the stone/brick pattern (which you can just barely make out on the church roof), and hand-cut a curvy stone sidewalk leading up to the door.

Are you as enamored with this little church as I am?

My next project is a card featuring just the church front, as well as the circular scene-builder dies. This little scene would work well under a dome, too.

Here, I've watercolored the scene elements. I love the painterly look!

My layers, back to front: In the very back is a Basic Backer piece watercolored in light blues for the sky. Next are sun rays from Scene It: Skyscapes. The Scene It: Everyday die set includes two tree dies, one for each side, as well as an extra rolling hill. I've used only one tree to let more of those gorgeous sun rays show. I love that extra small hill in the very front, too -- a perfect place to stamp one of the beautiful sentiments.

Just like the dome above, I cut a second (white) backer into a narrow frame to give the layered scene a nice finished look.

Behind the scene is a layer of Spring Moss card stock stopped with a layer of the large polka dot vellum that was introduced yesterday. I will be stocking up on LOTS of this vellum. The patterns are perfect!

Be sure to visit the DT blogs for lots more inspiration. Nichole has all the product details as well as today's contest info. Good luck!
