Verve Color Challenge

Have you been keeping up this week with the Project Parade Color Challenge over on the Verve blog? The gals at Verve cooked up a color challenge based on an advertisement for cute summer sandals, and all this week and next, the Verve divas are showing off their samples. For details on how to play along for a chance to win $15 in Verve bucks, go here.

Funny enough, the inspiration for my card came from the color challenge graphic. I thought those color swatches looked so sweet and pretty lined up alongside each other, so that's the direction I went. The simple, minimal design is a refreshing departure from my usual "fuss," but I like how fresh and crisp the colors look against the black and white backdrop. Not only that, but the Filigree Fantasy stamp is just so pretty I wanted to keep the focus on it and not on a lot of extra fluff.

I stamped the filigree on squares of three of the challenge colors, then clipped off the four corners with a tag corner punch. I added a tiny, and I must confess, somewhat gratuitous helping of the fourth color by adding 1/4" pumpkin circles behind the black brads that adorn the centers of each filigree. I gave the card a little dimension by dry embossing the large black panel using the Swiss Dots Cuttlebug folder and by popping up each filigree on foam adhesive. Wide olive grosgrain provides the finishing touch.

I hope you're feeling inpsired by the color combo. Remember, you have until May 31 to enter!

Stamps: Filigree Fantasy (Verve Visual)
Paper: Stamper's Select White (Papertrey Ink); Basic Black, Soft Sky, Cameo Coral, So Saffron, Pumpkin Pie card stock (SU!)

  2. I love this card. This has been the best color challenge. I had to play twice!

  3. I LOVE this card! So my kind of card :D Colors are great too. Makes this card pops!

Thanks for the submission info! You saved my day!!! I can't wait to see your cards in the mag!!

  4. Beautiful card with a beautiful color combination!

  5. Wow! I really like the boldness of the colored squares mixed with the contrast of the brown on white. Great card!

  6. Wow! Amy, this is so beautiful! Love the white space and the simple design. Looks so classy!

  7. I seriously thought I was at the wrong blog. I thought maybe you were posting a RAK. I thought, "This is more like a June card, not an Amy card!" Then I saw the circles under your brads and I knew you managed to make this clean sweet simple design your own.

I don't see too many people use the circles under the brads. Every time you do, I think, "I've got to try that!" It adds so much to the card. My favorite is your card from May 17th "Look at the bright side." I LOVE that card!!! I may just have to use that sketch!

  8. WOWZERS! Amy, this design is PERFECT! So unique and original! I love how you used the Ticket Corner Punch! ... an awesome punch that gets overlooked too often, don't you think?!

  9. oh this is pretty. i love those colors and i love your design. beautifully balanced and lovely as always
