Practice Hospitality

Hello Saturday! Hello weekend! I'm back with not one, but two, samples for Jen's Sketch For You To Try. Earlier today, I promised to be back with a "do-over" and this is it. More about why in a jiffy. Great sketch this week from Jen - check it out, along with Jen's sample and guest designer Megan Lock's sample, at i{heart}2stamp. Fellow sketch girls Amy Rohl, Carole Burrage, Kelly Lunceford, and Susan Liles await with a bounty of creativity and inspiration. To play along, link your sketch to Jen's post and remember to use keyword SFYTT if you upload to SCS.

The papers are from Cosmo Cricket's Early Bird line. The Scripture is the new Romans 12:13 Plain Jane by Verve, and the teapot is from Verve's new Cup of Life. [Note: I did my photo editing on my not-so-new-anymore Mac laptop for the first time - the display is very different from my desktop, so if my photo looks off, that's why.]

Okay, on to the silliness about the do-over. No, my dog didn't eat the first one. And neither did my 2-year-old. If you were at the Verve release party, you may have seen me express some embarrassment that my Cup of Life project from yesterday bore a noticeable resemblance (in my eyes, anyway) to Laurie Schmidlin's Anni-VERVE-sary blog hop post from a couple of weeks ago. I didn't realize they were so similar until last night, and it gave me that weird, kind of icky "I must look like a total copy cat" feeling. Yes, I care what other people think :)

Fast-forward to this morning. I had my SFYTT post almost ready to go, just needed to add the card photo. As so often happens, I got sidetracked by my email. Among those emails was Laurie's blog feed from her post last night. GASP!! Not again!! You have to click over and see Laurie's card (the first one) ... (I'll wait) ...

And now, with Laurie's encouragement, I present you my first SFYTT sample:

Now that I have a fresh pair of eyes, maybe they don't look THAT similar (Laurie added a lot more warmth with her lovely distressing), but still, do you see why I could NOT post this this morning as planned {giggle}? Laurie, I love ya, and I hope you're not creeped out!

Have a great weekend, friends!

My friend made and gave us this card > http://amandaspaperpalace.blogspot.com/2009/07/ssc-17-inside-out.html

  5. Let me try this again... :) I love these! Love that you used the 'hospitality' sentiment. They are just beautiful. I do think it's funny that you and Laurie are channeling each other lately. I adore you both, so that's a bonus in my book.

  8. You are so crazy! I would never think either of those were remotely derivative! But your such a good egg and so talented (just like Laurie) -- I admire both your integrity and your artistry! :)

  11. that's too funny, Amy. I love both your cards and Laurie's too! It was a fun release week. I'm doing a do-over for SFYTT as well, but just because my first card has not done the great sketch justice :)

  12. True be told....they are really similar. So funny. Great minds think alike. Just pat yourself on the back for that. That being said, as always, FABULOUS CARDS!

  13. Well, unless you start making your own designer paper, it's bound to happen. All of the cards, including Laurie's, are gorgeous. And this "copy-cat" feeling happened to me just the other day. It was an inspiration challenge featuring a pic from Pottery Barn. Before scanning down to the design team's ideas, I mentally created my own card. Scrolled down and there it was... right before my eyes! Weird.

  22. Oh you are too funny! I love them both...but I totally feel ya pain there! I posted a card once and someone said "Wow, I swore that was a Kittie card-looks exactly like hers!" I was mortified. I probably should have deleted it. I love the pp you used with the teapot-the card is just gorgeous! And I love the blossom nestie under the circle! Your first card is really beautiful too!!
